"I'm happy with where I am now. A handshake is enough for me, but a signature seals it. I'm happy to sign a new contract," Joshua stated.

When Joshua won Olympic heavyweight gold in 2012 in London, it was clear that he could become the most important British boxer of his time. In 2013, he signed with Matchroom and made his professional debut. His career proved to be a succession of sporting and commercial successes.

In 2016, AJ won his first world championship belt by knocking out Charles Martin. He then defeated, among others, Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin and Andy Ruiz Jr, his only winner so far. If Joshua defeats Alexander Usik on September 25, in his next fight, he could be targeting an outright championship bout with his compatriot Tyson Fury, the WBC champion.

From June 2019 to June 2020, Joshua earned nearly $50 million (according to Forbes), his earnings are likely to be much higher this year. With a new deal with Matchroom, which has established itself as a reliable and efficient business partner, Joshua could also get new advertising contracts and extensions of existing ones. Today, sponsors of the British giant with Nigerian roots include: Under Armour, Jaguar, Land Rover, Beats and Hugo Boss.
