That fight was demanded by the World Boxing Organisation management, but until recently it appeared that the champion, whose affairs are handled by promoter Top Rank, would be seeking a fight with a different opponent, as Porter's affairs are handled by Al Haymon and he performs under the PBC project.

Tender was supposed to take place two weeks ago, but both sides asked the WBO for more time to negotiate. Hours before the deadline, Top Rank and Premier Boxing Champions reached an agreement, thus avoiding the bidding process, and the boxers agreed on fees.

"Porter will undoubtedly be Terence's toughest opponent since he moved up to welterweight. It will be a great fight," said Carl Moretti, vice president of Top Rank.

Porter is a former two-time world champion at 66.7 pounds. His record includes such notable opponents as Devon Alexander, Paul Malignaggi, Adrien Browner, Andre Berto, Danny Garcia and Jordenis Ugas.
