WBC bantamweight champion Oscar Valdes (29-0, 23 KOs) was caught using a banned drug called phentermine, which is used to suppress appetite.
The Mexican is part of Eddie Reynoso's team, previously named coach of the year. Saul Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs), who was also caught using banned drugs a few years ago, also trains under this trainer. This creates a certain reputation around the famous trainer, which has not escaped the attention of Devin Haynie (26-0, 15 KOs) and Jervonte Davis (25-0, 24 KOs), who in turn have been locked in a verbal battle with Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs), another Reynoso mentee.
Two young Americans attacked the Mexican coach, suggesting his entire team was using banned substances. Garcia wasn't left in the lurch, and claimed Haney was not of interest to fans. The following is an exchange of "internet blows".
Jervonta Davis: "Lol... So now we're using stimulants to improve our performance. I'll bet."
Devin Haney: "Eddie Reynoso's whole team is doing this shit."
Eddie Reynoso: "Haters everywhere!"
Devin Haney: "No doping, no coach of the year."
Ryan Garcia: "Shut up accusing me of doping... I understand you can't even hit with 8-ounce gloves, but don't accuse me of such serious things."
Devin Haney: "I can't punch... But you're still avoiding facing me."
Ryan Garcia: "They say your shows don't sell out and fans want their money back when they start to fall asleep."
Devin Haney: "If that's your excuse..."
Ryan Garcia: "I know Eddie Hearn is already spitting, because of all the money he spent investing in Devin, and overpaying someone who doesn't sell DAZN subscriptions."
