Collard looked better at the start of the fight and hurt his big-name opponent twice in the second round, but failed to finish. In the third round, Pettis himself could have won by TKO when he hurt his opponent with a high-kick and then with a knee in a jump, but Collard held out until the final bell.
After three rounds, the judges unanimously gave the victory to Collard (29-27, 29-27, 29-28).
