Eddie Hearn strongly believes that Lawrence Okolie (15-0, 12 KOs) will defeat Krzysztof Głowacki (31-2, 19 KOs) to win the vacant WBO cruiserweight belt. The British promoter said that he has even begun to negotiate a unification fight of his boxer and Ilunga Makabu (28-2, 25 KOs), who owns the WBC championship belt.
“I have already talked to Makabu and I know that he is ready to fight in England again. Approximately after conquering the belt, he can immediately have a unification bout, and then move to the heavyweight division. In my opinion, everything should happen in the next twelve months,” Hearn said.
Makabu won the World Boxing Council belt last January when he defeated Michal Cieslak on points. The last time a boxer from the Democratic Republic of the Congo fought was December.
The WBO belt has remained vacant since November 2019 and will be challenged by Lawrence Okolie and former world champion Krzysztof Glowacki on Saturday in London.
