Josh Warrington's contract (30-1, 7 KOs) with Mauricio Lara (22-2, 15 KOs) included a rematch clause. However, it is not yet known whether the Englishman wants to have a second fight with the 22-year-old Mexican.
Warrington's team assumed that the fight with Lara would be a “warm-up” before the Englishman's championship fights. The Leeds boxer was due to cross gloves with WBA featherweight champion Can Xu at the end of April.
“The contract for the fight with Lara had options that we can use. One of them is a rematch clause, but Josh must be healthy and make this decision consciously. He missed a lot of punches in this fight,” said Eddie Hearn, Warrington's promoter.
This was Warrington's first ring appearance since October 2019. At the same time, it was the first duel of the 30-year-old fighter after resigning with Matchroom Boxing.
