It looks like Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) may not return to the ring this year. There is still no agreement between the camp of the Mexican and DAZN platform, which is trying to negotiate a reduction in Canelo's standard purse.
According to the DAZN deal, the 30-year-old boxer must earn at least $35 million for every performance he has. The platform is offering half of that amount for Alvarez's next fight, arguing that Golden Boy Promotions did not live up to its promise to organize one "superfight" a year for the Mexican fighter. This year DAZN, according to the agreement, appointed for Alvarez the third fight against Gennady Golovkin on November 14.
The WBC recently ordered Canelo and Avni Yildirim to fight for the vacant world super middleweight title. DAZN management has already announced that it will not accept the Turk as another rival of the Mexican boxer. Representatives of Golden Boy Promotions dealing with Alvres' affairs, in turn, said that negotiations with Billy Joe Saunders and Callum Smith are ongoing. The British have been under the aim of a world champion in four weight classes for several months.
Canelo had his last fight in November last year, knocking out Sergey Kovalev. Alvarez's next duel will be held at the super middleweight limit.
