Dillian Whyte (27-1, 18 KOs) has led the WBC Heavyweight rankings for 1,000 days. The Briton is still looking forward to the fight for the championship belt, but on August 22 he's crossing gloves with Alexander Povetkin (35-2-1, 24 KOs), again he risks losing his chance for such a fight.
Whyte rose to #1 on the World Boxing Council rankings after the victory over Robert Helenius in October 2017. At that time, it might seem that the conclusion of a contract for a duel between the Briton and the then current WBC champion Deontay Wilder would be only a matter of time, but nothing like this has happened so far.
During this time, Whyte defeated Lucas Brown, Joseph Parker, Dereck Chisora, Oscar Rivas and Mariusz Wach, while Wilder finally lost his trophy to Tyson Fury after five successful defenses.
At this point, unfortunately, little is said to suggest that Dillian Whyte will soon have his fight for the WBC title, although the Council has theoretically guaranteed him that he will box for the belt no later than February 2021. As a consolation, the Briton owns the interim champion belt, which he won in a fight against Rivas.
