“This guy changed in one evening,” said Manny Robles, a former trainer for Andy Ruiz Jr. (33-2, 22 KOs). Robles and Ruiz obtained IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight belts, but then the Mexican who was too fat and too slow lost in the rematch against Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs), and he decided to change his coach.
Robles' place was taken by Eddie Reynoso. Canelo's Coach now claims that Andy’s discipline should be at the heart of this collaboration.
“I never depended on one boxer. I was lucky to work with many. I wish Andy all the best. Reynoso is a good choice for him, but first of all, a boxer should think about hard work, and we, coaches, think about the best preparation for the fight. You can do everything possible, but if your ward does not want it, the trainer will not be able to do anything. Theoretically, Andy has everything to return to the championship bouts, but he really should desire it. Before the first fight with Joshua, I said that Andy has everything to win. I was right. The problem is that this guy changed in one night. He was different before the first fight," Robles said.
