The third season of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) will begin no earlier than next year. Everything will depend on the coronavirus pandemic and the fact that one more battle remains unmade before the end of the second season.

The second season of the series covered three categories (the first took place in two divisions). In the super lightweight final, Josh Taylor defeated Regis Prograis, and in the bantamweight final, Naoya Inoue defeated Nonito Donaire in a very spectacular fight. At the same time, the winner in the cruiserweight division has not yet been determined.

The clash of Mairis Briedis (26-1, 19 KOs) and Yunier Dorticos (24-1, 22 KOs) was supposed to take place first on December 14, then on March 21 and most recently on May 16. Each time the meeting was about to be held in Riga, Latvia. Of course, we can already say for sure that the May date will not be final, and fighters and fans are waiting for a new one. Until Briedis and Dorticos determine the strongest, the third season will not begin.

“We canceled boxing event in May, and the third season will not begin until we finish the second. We monitor the situation and return to the battle of Briedis with Dorticos as soon as possible. So far, you can count on the third season of WBSS to begin only at the beginning of next year, possibly in January,” said Kalle Sauerland, who is the face of this project.
