Eddie Hearn believes that because of the current health crisis associated with the coronavirus pandemic, it may take a long time before boxing returns to New York. According to the head of Matchroom Boxing, the famous Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center will not be able to host large sports evenings for long.

“There will be states in America where organizing sporting events will be safer than others,” said Hearn, who has been competing with local promoters overseas for months. “As for New York, for many months or even years no one will feel safe holding events there.”

“But perhaps in some states less affected by the pandemic, you can create a sterile environment with testing and social distance. Here's how it might work later. However, now all this is unclear. Perhaps boxing will return in June or July, or maybe only in October or November,” the British promoter added.

The venues located in New York and New Jersey were the venues of battles of the leading boxers in the world for years. New York Madison Square Garden's second name is Mecca of Boxing.
