Looks like  Billy Joe Saunders (29-0, 14 KOs) may lose his chance to fight  Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs). At the beginning of the year, boxers agreed to fight and had to cross gloves on May 2 in Las Vegas.

A few days before the official announcement of the battle, a coronavirus outbreak reached the United States, and the boxing calendar was frozen indefinitely. Meanwhile, Canelo’s third duel with Gennady Golovkin and other options for the Mexican began to get louder attention.

The desire to cross gloves with Alvarez was expressed, among others, by WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. The idea of a duel of Canelo and Ryota Murata also came back to life. This fight could take place in the spring in Japan, but it was postponed for the second half of the year.

Alvarez in his last performance knocked out Sergey Kovalev and won the belt in his fourth weight category. Canelo later gave up WBA title, which he won in this fight.
