Eddie Hearn plans to organize boxing events without spectators for four to six weeks. The beginning of this period may fall at the end of June, but all depends on whether the British government will reduce the restrictions associated with the coronavirus pandemic. If this happens, the British Boxing Board of Control may permit the organization of properly guarded events.
“It seems to me that the fate of boxing in June is still uncertain, but we are working on organizing evenings without spectators tentatively scheduled for the end of June or the beginning of July. We must be more careful than in case of darts or snooker competitions. Boxing has more medical requirements. We will create a unique system so that boxing can return. We will create it in four to six weeks. This way we can make a few evenings,” said Hearn.
“This will be a unique place where the safety of boxers and the provision of unique content to our television partners will be a priority. We do not want to take risks,” one of the leading promoters at the boxing market added.
The largest Hearn evenings, such as Joshua vs Pulev (due on June 20), Whyte vs Povetkin (due on May 2) and Usyk vs Chisora (due on May 23), will most likely not be held without the participation of the audience, but less important tournaments could take place by a 'unique system', for example, the battle of Josh Kelly against David Avanesyan (originally planned for March 28) or Terry Harper against Natasha Jonas (originally scheduled for April 24).
