Hearn: TV Channels need live events

British promoter Eddie Hearn said that he would meet the heads of the British boxing commission in late April to discuss organizing a boxing evening without spectators. The head of Matchroom Boxing argues that the TV is waiting for such decisions.

"It really is a difficult time for all sport TV. These companies live from live events, and they are now cut off from oxygen and cannot do anything about it. Each live event, even without the support of the fans will be treated by them with enthusiasm. TV channels are desperately looking for live events," explains Hearn.

The British promoter wanted to organize tournaments without the presence of spectators at the end of March. Ultimately, the decision was not adopted because it was considered too dangerous.

"We need to wait a few weeks and see how serious is the impact of the epidemic coronavirus in the British Isles. In this situation, the organization of anything would be irresponsible. Imagine that one of the fights ends with a heavy knockout and a boxer needs quick medical attention. But doctors are now very busy. I hope that we will return to this idea in a few weeks," the head of Matchroom Boxing said.

As Hearn noted, it's possible that Josh Kelley would fight David Avanesyan in June without the presence of spectators. Terry Harper can have a duel with Natasha Jonas by the same scenario.
