Golovkin is injured, return postponed till May or June

Gennady Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) injured his right leg and will not be able to train for almost a month. This means that the fight of the IBF middleweight champion against Kamil Szeremeta (21-0, 5 KOs) will take place no earlier than May or June.

Initially, the duel was planned at the turn of February and March, but recently the date of the battle was constantly changing. In addition to the injury Golovkin have another problem. The fighter from Kazakhstan month ago ceased cooperation with the SNAC Training Center owned by Victor Conte.

"Gennady could not do what we expected. I had to ask him to leave our center, but I wish him good luck in the future," Conte said in an interview to ESPN.

For Golovkin a fight against Szeremeta will be IBF mandatory title defense. Szeremeta is number one in the International Boxing Federation rankings, and the team of GGG has sent a request to IBF to postpone the duel for several weeks.

Golovkin won his belt in October in New York, defeating Sergiy Derevyanchenko. At the same evening Szeremeta had his last fight when he knocked out Oscar Cortes. Golovkin vs Sheremet fight in the US will be shown on DAZN platform.
