Former light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (34-4-1, 29 KOs) will soon debut in the cruiserweight division. This information was provided by Buddy McGirt the coach of the Russian fighter.
36-year-old Kovalev lost his WBO belt in November, losing to Saul Alvarez by knockout. The date of his next appearance in the ring has not been officially confirmed yet.
From the very beginning of his professional career the Russian was fighting at light heavyweights. As a former World Boxing Organization champion, Kovalev may be at the top of the organization rating after his debut in the new division.
The vacant WBO belt in the weight category up to 200 pound in the spring will be disputed by Lawrence Okolie and former world champion Krzysztof Głowacki.
