Golden Boy Promotions has officially confirmed that Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) will fight on May 2 in Las Vegas. It is still unknown who will be his next opponent.
According to information provided during the last week by Eddie Hearn, the potential competitors of Canelo are Callum Smith (27-0, 19 KOs) and Billy Joe Saunders (29-0, 14 KOs). They both possess world super middleweight titles. The first is WBA champion, and the second has WBO belt.
If Alvarez decides to fight another rival, Smith and Saunders can meet each other next spring on the British Isles. The Mexican in his last fight made his debut at the light heavyweights and won WBO belt, that he left vacant immediately.
In the autumn Alvarez may face Gennady Golovkin for the third fight. The fighter from Kazakhstan will soon fight unbeaten Polish contender Kamil Szeremeta.
