New tycoons in the world market of boxing with its vast financial resources, the representatives of Saudi Arabia submitted the proposal to organize a unification fight in the lightweight division between WBA, WBO and WBC champion Vasyl Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs) and the new IBF champion Teofimo Lopez (15-0, 12 KOs). This was announced by Bob Arum, promoter of both boxers.

"Lomachenko meets Lopez, that's for sure, now we are up to the choice of the place of this fight. We have offers from two New York facilities, Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center. We also received a proposal from Saudi Arabia. The fight may take place in April, in the worst case in May, because this will be the end of Ramadan (the Muslim holy month, related with the symbolic fasting from dawn to dusk, in 2020 Ramadan ends on May 23).

In 2018 Saudi Arabia was the place of WBSS super middleweight final (Groves vs. Smith), and in 2019 it accepted December boxing evening with the main event of Joshua vs Ruiz II. In 2020 Eddie Hearn announced the organization of a minimum two nights of boxing in Saudi Arabia, and Bob Arum can support a new trend.
