Former world featherweight champion and Olympic gold medalist Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-2, 18 KOs) of Cuba has signed a contract with Premier Boxing Champions earlier this year and yesterday made a successful debut on the evening of boxing from PBC Davis vs Nunez in Baltimore, stopping former world champion Roman Martinez (30-4-3, 18 KOs) of Puerto Rico in the second round.
Martinez returned to the ring earlier this year after a nearly three-year hiatus, and, judging by his fights, was no longer the same. 37-year-old Gamboa, on the contrary, looked good, given his age, although in the battle to which he aspires - a possible autumn meeting with WBA super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis - he certainly will not be the favorite.
Gamboa vs Martinez ended in the second round. First Gamboa sent Martinez to the floor with a left hook, and then with a combination of left-right. The Puerto Ricans managed to get up, but the referee decided that he should not continue, and Gamboa celebrated his victory.
