Vargas defends WBC title, De La Hoya losses (video)

Ray Vargas (34-0, 22 KOs) scored a unanimous decision victory over Tomoki Kameda (36-3, 20 KOs) and defended his WBC super bantamweight title. This fight was the main event of the evening in Carson, California.

After twelve rounds all the judges scored it in favour of the Mexican 117-110. Kameda was deducted a point in the 12th round for hitting after the "stop" command. For 28-year-old Vargas it was the fifth successful defense of his World Boxing Council belt.

At the same evening of boxing in California, Diego de la Hoya (21-1, 10 KOs) suffered his first loss in professional ranks. 24-year-old nephew of the legendary Oscar de la Hoya was stopped in the sixth round by Ronny Rios (31-3, 15 KOs).

Battle from the beginning went on collision courses. The opponents threw a lot of punches and without hesitation went into the exchanges, often neglecting with defense. In the fifth round, Rios was able to hurt the opponent, and in the sixth he landed the exact right straight to the chin of de la Hoya, after which Diego fell on the floor and could not continue the fight.
