Former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre announced his retirement from the sport at a press conference in Montreal.

ā€œTo become and remain a champion, you need to be very disciplined. You also need a lot of discipline to stop when you feel that you are in the best physical and moral form in your life, but I always planned to leave the sport being at the top and in good health. I want to thank my family, fans, coaches and sparring partners, my sponsors and managers for their impeccable support over the yearsā€, said St-Pierre.

ā€œNo tears. I am very happy to do this. It was a long process, but it was time to leave. Only a few people managed to do this, and I always said that I wanted to resign on my own will and I was not told to do it. You need to leave at the top,ā€ said St-Pierre.

Throughout his career, the 37-year-old Canadian had 28 fights, scoring 26 wins and suffering only two defeats (both were revenged).
