Usyk’s promoter: Usyk will stay in the cruiserweight only for Ward fight

Although Andre Ward announced the end of his pro career more than a year ago, the camp of Oleksandr Usyk (16-0, 12 KOs) quietly hopes on the American being tempted to come back and fight the king of the cruiserweights. According to Aleksander Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter this is the only opponent that can persuade the Ukrainian to remain in the cruiserweights for one more fight.

“We already have a list of potential opponents. Everything should be clear in the next few weeks. I can assure you that Oleksandr’s next fight will take place in the heavyweights. He did everything he had to do in the cruiserweights. There is only one option to remain in the category, I mean the duel with Andre Ward,” Krassyuk said.

The promoter of the Ukrainian did not rule out that Aleksander Povetkin (34-2, 24 KOs) will be another option for Usyk, but at the same time he stressed that a possible fight with the Russian is not a priority.

“For now, we do not know how it will all develop. There are currently many exciting boxers in the heavyweights. The fight with Povetkin is possible, but it is definitely not our first option,” said Krassyuk.
