Tete beats Aloyan on points, defends WBO title

In the main event of the boxing evening in Yekaterinburg, in the quarterfinals of the second season of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) Zolani Tete (28-3, 21 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over the 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Misha Aloyan (4-1), defended his WBO title and went to the WBSS semifinals, where he will meet the winner of the pair Ryan Burnett - Nonito Donaire, who will square off on November 3 in Glasgow.

The fight was not very spectacular and sometimes rather dirty. Aloyan was noticeably inferior to Tete in height, but not in speed. This, however, was not enough to give the South African any significant damage.

In the first round after a missed punch, Aloyan lost his balance, touched the canvas with his glove and the referee counted him a knockdown.

After the middle of the battle, a small swelling developed under Aloyan’s right eye.

In the tenth round, referee Kenny Chevalier took off a point from Tete for holding the opponent's head. In the same round, Aloyan got a cut over his right eye, which the referee asked to examine the doctor, but the latter allowed the fight to continue.

In the eleventh round, the referee deducted a point from Aloyan for holding.

As a result after 12 rounds, the judges counted 114-111 twice and 114-110 all in favor of Tete, who defended his title for the third time.

In general, it is necessary to recognize that the main card of the evening from the WBSS in Yekaterinburg turned out to be rather boring.
