Garcia and Easter teams are close on signing a contract

Representatives of lightweight champions Mikey Garcia (38-0, 30 KOs) and Robert Easter, Jr. (21-0, 14 KOs) are negotiating for a unification meeting, which may take place on July 28 or August at the Staples Center in Los-Angeles. If the parties manage to agree, this meeting will be held on Showtime.

In March this year, Garcia defeated Sergey Lipinets and became the champion in the fourth weight category, but for the unification meeting with Easter he will go back to 130. His title in the super lightweight division Garcia left vacant two weeks ago, refusing to meet mandatory challenger Ivan Baranchyk.

In his last fight this January Easter hardly defended his title by a split decision over Javier Fortuna.
