In the second main event of UFC 223 tournament, the champion in the women's minimumweight division, Rose Namajunas successfully defended her title for the first time, defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk by a unanimous decision.
The first round the athletes spent very carefully, looking closely at each other. In the second round, Jedrzejczyk completely took the initiative and confidently overplayed her rival, working at a long distance. Namajunas looked mindful of the success in the first fight and tried to relay on her punches, many of which reached the goal, but did not hurt the representative of Poland. In the final round, Namajunas noticeably intensified her actions and even managed to transfer her rival to the ground at the end of five minutes.
To the surprise of many, the judges unanimously gave victory to Namajunas (49-46, 49-46, 49-46), despite the fact that Jedrzejczyk was busier with her blows by a significant margin - 143 total punches (132 power punches) against 85 (84 power punches).
