A judge of the municipal court sentenced WBC heavyweight champion Deonthey Wilder to 60 hours of public service for possession of marijuana in June last year. Wilder also received a 30-day suspended sentence and two years of conditional release.

Wilder was arrested in his native Tuscaloosa in June after the police discovered marijuana in his car. Initially, Wilder was stopped for a window tint violation. Hearing the smell of marijuana police officers searched the car and found a small amount of it on the console of the car.

Attorney Paul Patterson said that marijuana did not belong to Wilder. Patterson added that the boxer had just returned from a trip in which other people had access to the car.
