Redkach: “This was my non-Mexican fight”

Ivan Redkach

January 28 in Las-Vegas on Leo Santa Cruz vs. Carl Frampton undercard Ukrainian lightweight Ivan Redkach (20-2-1, 16 KOs) stopped Demond Brock (13-4-1, 4 KOs) of Kenner, Louisiana. Redkach kept his distance fighting from the southpaw stance as Brock stalked. Brock was cut from a punch in round three and referee Jay Nady warned Brock in round four for leading with his head as Redkach jabbed away and countered. The Ukrainian stopped Brock at 2:30 of the eighth and final round.

“This was my non-Mexican fight”, Ukrainian brawler told exclusively to RingSide24. “Usually I fight more aggressively but this one was not the case. I tried to jab, move a lot in an amateur way, paid more attention to defense and not trade punches. Actually I liked the way I fought in this bout and the way I got the stoppage. Power boxing is out of fashion already, it is so easy to read”.

“I tried not to give him a single round. But it’s funny when I was watching the fight on video one of the commentators said that at the beginning of the final round I was leading just one point, though, I think, I was winning without any doubts”, Redkach told.

“Yet I’m satisfied with the result although I hurt my left hand with the final punch. Now it hurt but I can move it so nothing serious. That is one of my old injuries from the armature days. Hope it will heal soon. I plan to come back in the gym in a week or two. My manager promised me a fight in March in a co-main event in LA”, said Redkach.
