Declining star of Mexican boxing and former WBO/IBF/WBA welterweight world champion Antonio Margarito (39-8, 27 KOs) faced off with his compatriot and the next foe Ramon Alvarez (23-4-2, 15 KOs) who is Canelo’s older brother at the kickoff press conference. Margarito will clash with Alvarez in August 13 at the Centro de Convenciones in Rosarito, Baja California.
Antonio Margarito: “I’ll be better than in the fight against Paez Jr. I was rusty after nearly five years of retirement. I’m not the young man of before, but I’ll be looser in my movements. I don’t disparage any opponent, but with all due respect, on the street when I’m asked who I’m fighting, if I say ‘Inocente Alvarez’ they don’t know who it is. But when I say ‘Canelo’s brother,’ they know. I’m going to win on August 13.”
Ramon Alvarez: “"I have always wanted the fight with Margarito, and now thanks to Fernando Beltran it will happen. It is an opportunity for my career and I have no doubt that I'll win regardless. There will just two of us in the ring. I will enter to do my work and I’ll be 200% and give everything in the ring.”
