Gaethje explained why he agreed to fight Holloway

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje revealed why he agreed to fight former lower division titleholder Max Holloway.

These fighters will meet on April 13 at the UFC 300 anniversary event in Las Vegas.

"I accepted the fight with Holloway because the UFC announced Oliveira's fight with Tsarukian and called it a contender fight. So there's only one way to make sure that doesn't happen, and that's to get to UFC 300 and put on our best performance.

All four of us have a chance to be a top contender. Who will fight Makhachev next? I think Islam will fight twice this year. Now everything depends on April 13," Sports Net quoted the American as saying.
