Holloway explained why he decided not to wait for the Topuria fight

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway revealed why he chose a bout with Justin Gaethje over waiting for another title shot in his division.

The lightweight bout, which will have the symbolic BMF title held by Gaethje at stake, will take place April 13 at UFC 300 in Las Vegas.

"A lot of people are saying, 'This is crazy, why did you decide to fight Gaethje, Max?' Why couldn't you have just waited for Topuria?". Not everybody realizes that you're not guaranteed anything in this game. How many times have we seen someone promised a title fight but it never happened? Me and Gaethje were next in line for a title shot in their respective divisions. But how many times does that work out? Not all the time.

Everyone keeps saying I would have gotten the Topuria fight. And I say, "Do you really think so?". I always thought that if Topuria somehow defeats Volkanovski, Alexander would get an immediate rematch. Wolf has done enough for that," MMA Mania quotes Holloway as saying.
