"It was a gimmick." McGregor made a big statement about the Chandler fight

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has retracted his words that his bout with Michael Chandler will be a middleweight bout.

The Irish star announced the day before that his fight with the American is scheduled for the summer.

"What weight is the fight going to be at? When I said middleweight, it was such a little joke. In fact, I haven't stepped on the scale since the last time I weighed in before the UFC. And that was quite a while ago," McGregor said in an interview with ESPN.

Recall that 35-year-old McGregor has not appeared in the octagon since July 2021, when he lost by technical knockout to Dustin Puryear. In that fight Conor suffered a severe leg fracture.
