UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev shared his thoughts on the defeat of his former rival Alexander Volkanovski in a fight with Elijah Topuria.
On February 17 at UFC 298, the Australian lost to the Georgian by knockout and lost his belt in the promotion's featherweight division.
"Of course, Alex came back too soon. Alex is a great fighter, a real warrior, everyone knows that. He can fight every day. But I've always said he has a very bad team. It was the team that came down to sit down with Volkanovski and tell him, 'Hey, it's too soon.'"
Alex suffered a very bad knockout in his last fight. He should have not trained for three or four months, not done anything at all. Recover and wait. And he went to fight. This is a huge mistake," MMA Junkie quoted Makhachev as saying.
