Whittaker: "Fighting Chimaev won't get me anything."

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker explained why he has no interest in fighting Hamzat Chimaev at this stage of his career.

"The fight with Chimaev won't do anything for me. It's a high-profile fight, but it's not going to move me higher in the rankings. I want to fight top-five fighters, and a win over Sean Strickland will make me a top contender again. That's as close to a title fight as you can get.

It's just about getting the belt back. My goal is unchanged. But since Dricus Du Plessis has the title, I can kill two birds with one stone, which sounds good," - quotes the Australian MMA Junkie.

Recall, on February 17, in the framework of the tournament UFC 298 in Anaheim, USA, Whittaker defeated Paulo Costa by unanimous decision of judges.
