UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis confirmed that he has declined to fight former belt holder Israel Adesanya at UFC 300, scheduled for April 13 in Las Vegas, due to injury.

"Given the hype surrounding the UFC 300 tournament, our fight with Israel would be really huge. The offer was official, but one thing people don't understand is why would I start training camp injured when I'm already a champion?

I've taken many risks, but why would I take a risk now? I'm a champion now and I can fight when I'm ready. I think Adesanya still mistakenly thinks he is a champion even though he is not," MMA News quoted the South African as saying.
