Eddie Hearn has confirmed that if Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs) defeats Francis Ngannou (0-1) this coming Friday, his next opponent will be Filip Hrgovic (17-0, 14 KOs).
According to previous plans, the fight between the Brit and the Croatian would take place in the summer, and the stakes of their meeting would be the IBF world heavyweight title, which will be vacant after the May unification fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
Hrgovic was scheduled to appear on Friday night's boxing night, but in the end the Croatian will not box in Riyadh on the undercard of the Joshua-Ngannou tournament. Hrgovic last boxed in December.
It's also worth noting that Hrgovic is a tentative replacement for Tyson Fury in case he pulls out again due to injury ahead of his fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
