Kevin Lee: “I should have fought Ferguson, not Fakhretdinov”

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Kevin Lee spoke about some details of his last year return to the promotion.

In July 2023, the American lost ahead of schedule to Rinat Fakhretdinov, after which he announced his retirement. The 31-year-old fighter claims he was originally supposed to fight Tony Ferguson.

“I should have fought Ferguson, not Fakhretdinov. But I couldn’t go down to lightweight because my knee was in bad shape and I couldn’t make the weight cut. But yes, I had to come back against Ferguson. The fight against Tony is still interesting to me,” Lee was quoted as saying by MMA Junkie.

Let us remember that in early February, Lee announced that he had decided to return from a short sports retirement. There is no information yet about the American’s next fight.
