Erislandy Lara (29-3-3, 17 KOs) and Michael Zerafa (31-4, 19 KOs) must fight again for the WBA middleweight title. The World Boxing Association has given boxing teams 30 days to discuss organizing the fight.
The Cuban is a full-fledged WBA champion in the weight limit up to 72.5 kg, and the Australian recently gained the status of an official challenger. If the parties do not reach an agreement on this issue by February 15, the fight organizer will determine a competition for promotional applications.
The WBA had been planning such a fight since March last year. Then, however, Zerafa agreed to wait for a championship opportunity, while Lara would cross gloves with Danny Garcia in the meantime. However, this fight never took place.
