Poirier: “I’m in a strange position right now”

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier spoke about his return to the Octagon.

“I’m in a strange position. For the first time in my entire career, I am in this position: still at the top, but kind of waiting for something big. I've always fought and fought and fought to try to get up and get to the big fights and now I'm here.

I'm also in business, and in addition to fighting, I have a liquor store in Louisiana, and I have a hot sauce and bourbon company. I have a lot to do, my wife and I constantly set goals and work with the foundation. So I'm just really busy outside of the cage, but I'm waiting for an interesting opportunity to present itself.

Before the fight with Gaethje, I was in about the same position, but when they called me and told me his last name, this fight excited me and made me nervous. If I hear a name that evokes the same emotions in me, then I know I want to fight. I haven’t heard yet,” Poirier said in an interview with MMA Junkie.
