Former world bantamweight champion Rolando Romero believes Mexican star Saul Alvarez has a duty to share the ring with David Benavides after defeating his compatriot Jaime Munguia.

"It was a great fight. Mexico won. Despite everything, it was a great fight. The knockdown played an important role. Overall it was a great card.

There's only one fight next for Canelo Alvarez and that's the fight against David Benavides. Everyone wants to see it, so we need to organize it," Romero said in an interview with YouTube channel Fight Hub TV.

Recall that on the night of May 5, Alvarez defeated Munguia by unanimous decision of the judges in the main event of the evening of boxing in Las Vegas.

Saul Alvarez, the absolute champion of the world in the super middleweight division, shared his opinion about the undefeated David Benavides. Canelo noted that he doesn't consider David a monster and compared him to Gennadiy Golovkin.

"Is Benavides a monster? No, he's just like Golovkin. I've fought every style imaginable," Fight Hub TV quoted Alvarez as saying.

Already on May 4, Saul Alvarez will have a fight with his compatriot, unbeaten Jaime Munguia. Their confrontation will headline an evening of boxing that will take place in Las Vegas.

As for David Benavides, he will meet Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk in the ring on June 16. At stake in this confrontation will be the title of interim world champion in the light-heavyweight version of the WBC.

Undefeated American boxer David Benavides (28-0, 24 KOs) has spoken out about his upcoming fight with Ukrainian veteran Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs).

"After the fight with Oleksandr Gvozdyk, a win will make me the number one contender for the winner of the Bivol vs. Beterbiev fight - that's what I'm aiming for.

Right now we are 100% focused on Alexander, he is a great boxer. We are not losing sight of him. We'll take care of him first and then we'll move on to the next opponent," Benavides told Boxing News 24/7.

Recall, Benavides and Gvozdik will fight on June 15 in Las Vegas, USA. At stake will be the temporary WBC light-heavyweight title.
