PFL Eyes Full Rebrand as New CEO John Martin Signals a Fresh Start

PFL is preparing for a complete rebrand under new executive leadership. John Martin, who took over as CEO following Peter Murray, said in an interview with Ariel Helwani that the league plans to overhaul its visual identity and naming structure this year to mark what it sees as a fundamentally new chapter for the promotion.

PFL appears headed for one of the most significant identity shifts in its history. New CEO John Martin, who succeeded Peter Murray, said in an interview with Ariel Helwani that the promotion is actively exploring a full-scale rebrand, including the possibility of a new name and logo, with a decision expected soon.

Martin’s message was clear: the company wants to present itself as entering a new era. That push, according to him, has the full backing of PFL’s leadership team, which views the move as more than cosmetic. The goal is to signal a clean break and better position the organization for its next phase of growth in the global MMA market.

The move would mark another major turn for a promotion that has already reinvented itself before. Nine years ago, World Series of Fighting changed ownership and was relaunched as PFL with a revamped format. More recently, after acquiring Bellator, the league moved away from its Grand Prix structure and toward a more conventional championship model built around titleholders and official rankings.

Now, under Martin’s leadership, PFL seems to be considering even deeper changes. A new brand identity could help the company separate itself more decisively from earlier versions of the business and present a clearer image to fans, broadcasters, and sponsors in the U.S. and abroad. That matters at a time when the promotion is still trying to define exactly what it wants to be in a crowded MMA landscape dominated by the UFC.

If the rebrand moves forward, the biggest question will be whether it’s just a new look or the start of a broader reset in how PFL operates, markets its fighters, and builds events. The next few months should offer a clearer picture of how far Martin plans to take that transformation.
