Top Irish UFC welterweight Ian Garry spoke about a potential fight between the champion of his division Jack Della Maddalena and former champion in the category below Islam Makhachev.
“It is obvious that Islam is phenomenal, he is good at everything. But size matters when we talk about a 7-kilogram difference. Just compare the sizes of Volkanovski and Maddalena — there is a big difference, Jack is much bigger. And Volk fought Makhachev. Or if you look at the style, Dustin Poirier gave Islam a good fight. It was not a complete domination by Makhachev.
I think size will play a huge role in this fight, even on the ground. Everyone says that Islam is very strong. But it doesn’t seem to me that it will be easy for him to do everything he has planned. No matter how phenomenal a fighter he is,” Garry said in an interview with Ariel Helwani.
