Pimblett: "Topuria wouldn't have won the title if it wasn't for Makhachev"

UFC lightweight prospect Paddy Pimblett shared his thoughts on Elijah Topuria winning the featherweight division title.

"I was crushed when I saw the result of the Volkanovski and Topuria fight. I like Alexa a lot, and I hate Topuria. But I don't feel like Elijah would have knocked out Wolf if Wolf hadn't been knocked out 10-12 weeks prior.

Elijah was lucky to fight Volkanovski at the right time. Alex should have rested for at least three more months, coming back in May. And he came out fighting shortly after that monstrous leg kick to the head from Makhachev. And he agreed to fight on a 10-day notice after a tough weigh-in. Topuria threw a great punch, he did everything clearly. But he would not have become champion if not for Islam", - said Pimblett in an interview with the New York Post.

Recall that Topuria knocked out Volkanovski in February and became the UFC featherweight champion. He is expected to defend the belt against Max Holloway in October.
