UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis revealed why he turned down an offer to headline the UFC 300 anniversary event, which took place April 13 in Las Vegas.
"This is your career and you have to approach it wisely. Look at Alex Volkanovski ... He was a champion but decided to come out to fight on a week's notice. That's cool, but what happened? What good did it do him?
Yes, he has money, but that's not the main thing for me. He made money and got knocked out because obviously he didn't have time to prepare. Does anyone care about that? No, everyone only remembers the knockout," Du Plessis told FightWave.
Du Plessis is expected to defend his title against former division champion Israel Adesenyi on August 18 at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia.
