Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez assessed Dustin Porier's performance in his fight with current titleholder Islam Makhachev.
On June 1 in the main event of the UFC 302 show in Newark, USA, the American lost to the Dagestani with a choke hold in the fifth round.
"Porier was in great shape, he was focused and collected. After every round he reset and kept staying in the game. It didn't matter what was going on as the round progressed. Even if Makhachev sat on his back for five minutes - no problem. By the 15th minute, the quality of the fight will drop, so you're left standing against each other. Dustin was able to wear him down and had a chance to knock him out.
Dustin could have made a final spurt, but he didn't make it. He used too much energy. Islam did a great job of moving him to the floor with a single leg takedown and skillfully transitioned to a choke. It was a great finish to the fight. The Dagestani remains an enigma, but Dustin helped everyone find the antidote against them," Alvarez said on The MMA Hour show.
