UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev confirmed that he was stricken with a staph infection prior to his bout with former interim titleholder Dustin Porier.
"There was, yes. A picture somewhere even appeared that I had staphylococcus. Well, a little illness plagued me. Three weeks before the fight came to America, and for a week it knocked me out. I didn't train, rested, so that it wouldn't spread further. I went to the doctors here. But, I think, it did not bother me, just rested for a week and returned to training," - said the Dagestani in an interview with UFC.
Recall that on June 1 in the main event of UFC 302 in Newark, USA, Makhachev defeated Puryear with a choke hold in the fifth round.
