Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Porier has spoken out about his performance in his fight against full titleholder Islam Makhachev.

On the night of June 2 in the main event of UFC 302 in Newark, USA, the American lost to the Dagestani with a choke hold in the fifth round.

"Mistakes? I was hitting the body well, but not hard enough to hit the organs. I realized I could hit the liver. The sound after the punches was good, but the damage was small.

My team wanted me to throw more punches at Makhachev. I needed to open up more. After the fight, though, it's easy to speculate on what I should have done. I couldn't figure it out. There are several things I should have done differently," said the American at the press conference.
