Speaking about Oleksandr Usyk’s upcoming fight, Ruiz said the unbeaten Ukrainian remains the clear favorite, though he believes Rico Verhoeven brings enough power to make things uncomfortable. In Ruiz’s view, Verhoeven is far more dangerous than a novelty opponent, especially given the punching force he has shown both in training and in sanctioned bouts. Still, Ruiz expects Usyk’s footwork to be the difference-maker on fight night.

Ruiz also turned the conversation toward a possible matchup of his own with Usyk and said he likes his chances, particularly if he can get to the body early. He argued that a technical fight at range would feature defense and counters on both sides, but maintained that his pressure and body attack could change everything quickly. Ruiz believes that kind of approach could allow him to stop Usyk in the early rounds.
