Anthony Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, made a new statement about the most anticipated British confrontation of the last decade — AJ's fight against Tyson Fury.
"Before the terrible accident, we were actively preparing Anthony to fight Fury this spring. Everything was almost set. But after what happened, everything drastically changed — both for Joshua and for the whole situation in the heavyweight division. Tyson now has another opponent," Hearn stated in an exclusive interview.
According to the head of Matchroom Boxing, the long-awaited mega-fight that fans have been waiting for since 2017 and which has been canceled several times at the final stage is now in big question. "Honestly? I don't know if Joshua - Fury will ever happen. Right now, it's not the main thing at all," added the promoter.
The reason for such a sharp turn was a car accident on December 29 in Nigeria. As a result of the accident, two of Anthony Joshua's closest friends and team members died. The boxer himself received relatively minor injuries, but the psychological impact was devastating.
Anthony himself is yet to give a clear answer about the future. In his latest public statements, the 36-year-old former world champion emphasized that he needs time to "think it all over and make a decision".
