Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KO) got the green light for his heavyweight world title defense, which is essentially another formality on the way to his next match. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the contracts to be signed and the official announcement.

The champion has repeatedly stated that he would like to face Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KO) in his next fight. Rumors even emerged about a specific date and location. It is expected that the fight will take place on July 11 in San Francisco, but so far no one has confirmed these reports.

However, the fight would not take place without the approval of the World Boxing Council. And the Council gave such approval.

“Mr. Usyk approached us with the request for a voluntary title defense, which he received, and we are waiting for details on his upcoming fight. Deontay Wilder was our champion for more than five years, he's a very hard hitter, he ranks high in our ratings, so he certainly has the right and can fight Usyk as part of a voluntary title defense,” said Mauricio Sulaiman, president of WBC.
