Don Charles, a trainer who worked with Daniel Dubois for a long time and knows the heavyweight division from the inside, unexpectedly gave a rather bold assessment of the potential clash between Alexander Usyk and Fabio Wardley.
According to the British specialist, this fight is far from a walkover for the Ukrainian unified champion, as most fans might initially think.
“There are many factors here: style, the desire to fight, pure punching power. But there is one thing you can definitely say about Fabio—he will constantly and vigorously throw punches,” Charles began.
He then drew an unexpected parallel:
“Let's remember Daniel's first fight with Usyk in Poland. We saw that Usyk can be hit. If you exclude that infamous low blow and Derek Chisora in his prime—who else has truly given Alexander serious problems in the past 5–6 years? Almost no one. And Fabio Wardley, with all due respect to his opponents, has a noticeably richer and more varied arsenal than Dubois had at that time.”
Charles also openly hinted at the age factor:
“Usyk is not a young man anymore. He’s had many tough fights over the last few years. At the same time, Fabio looks fresh, confidently dispatching everyone put in front of him and doing so quite dominantly. If I were to bet on this fight now—I honestly wouldn’t bet against Wardley.”
Let us remind you, Usyk plans to have his next fight in the spring against Deontay Wilder.
